SwanCare
Group is investing more than $50 million to establish a new destination
for retirees in the South West.
Australind Rise, which will be bounded by Eliza Place to the west
and Eastwell Road to the south, will boast 107 villas and apartments
which are scheduled for completion in mid-2011.
SwanCare Group chief executive officer Graham Francis said the
development would bring excitement and energy to retiring in the
region.
He said the group's demographic study showed deficiencies in the
amount of accommodation available for over-55s in the region.
"There's a market need - we can see the need and we're looking
forward and we can see that need only growing."
The development will offer a range of home choices from two or
three-bedroom and two-bathroom villas to stylish apartments.
It will also feature dining and entertainment options, a library,
licensed bistro area, gymnasium and theatrette.
Mr Francis said the development would set new standards in retirement
living, making it an exciting place for retired and semi-retired
residents to live and work.
"We (SwanCare Group) want to be part of the community so we
will open up our facilities to residents' family and friends to
try and maximise the usage and benefits," Mr Francis said.
Harvey shire planning manager Jake Davidson said the development
was the first of its kind of this scale.
"Certainly there appears to be a growing demand for aged care
and retirement living in Australind and surrounding areas,"
Mr Davidson said.
"This is an exciting new development for Australind and certainly
we think it's going to be a good thing for the area."
Association of Independent Retirees Bunbury branch deputy president
Don Martin said there was a demand for quality retirement living
and care support services in the region.
"It's certainly going to be considered by a lot of retirees,"
he said.
Construction of stage one of the project is anticipated to start
in October, when about 20 of the villas will be offered for sale.
