Residential aged care within Australia is regulated by the
Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing under the Aged Care Act 1997.
All SwanCare Group residential care facilities are fully accredited by the Aged Care Standards Agency.
Eligibility for Low Care Accommodation
Eligibility for entry into Low Care accommodation is assessed the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) and is independent of SwanCare Group. The level of Government subsidy is determined according to the care needs of the resident. Fees and charges that a resident in Low Care pays are based on a standard daily fee and takes into account the resident’s income and assets as determined by Centrelink.
Daily Care Fees – 85% of the prevailing pension rate supplemented by the amount of Commonwealth Government subsidy based on the level of care needs as determined by the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) or a Resident Classification Score (RCS).
An Accommodation Bond may be required for entry to Low Dependency Residential Care.
Eligibility for High Care Accommodation
An applicant for High Care residential accommodation must undergo an independent Aged Care Assessment and quality as requiring high dependency residential care. Costs associated with high care accommodation are:
Daily Care Fees – 85% of the prevailing pension rate supplemented by the amount of Commonwealth Government subsidy based on the level of care needs as determined by the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) or a Resident Classification Score (RCS).
Additional Daily Care Fee – income tested and calculated on the level of income and assets evaluated under the Centrelink means testing process.
SwanCare Group recommended that independent information and advice be sought from a government appointed Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) on their helpline, from a Centrelink office or hospital social worker.
