Our History

Sixty Years of SwanCare

Born out of a desire to assist elderly with housing by the late Richard Cleaver, Swan Cottage Homes was initially opened as residential cottages to war widows in 1961. Over the course of the next 40 years SwanCare expanded its accommodation and services on 8-acres of burnt-out pine forest in Bentley to see Richard’s vision realised.

Richard always believed that the feeling of genuine community and togetherness would underpin the success of SwanCare. His legacy continues to deliver on this vision to this day. Now in it's sixth decade of operation, SwanCare spans across 15-hectares and incorporates integrated services catering for all ageing needs. The not-for-profit and registered charity is classed as one of Western Australia’s leading providers of quality retirement living and residential aged care in an inclusive community for seniors to enjoy their twilight years.
