Every month we are lucky to get the opportunity to read many inspiring stories about our team and learn about the ways they are helping enrich the lives of others.

Since the beginnings of SwanCare in 1961, the organisation has put compassion at the core of what we do. Our Feathers winner for February, Social Engagement Assistant Safirah Ismail, highlights the value and impact of compassion in our place of work.

Congratulations Safirah! Here is her nomination:

“We would like to recognise Safirah for the extraordinary compassion and dedication she had with one of our residents. Recently one of our residents was placed on end-of-life palliative care, unfortunately his daughter lives interstate and was going to take a couple of days to arrive. Safirah stayed after her shift to provide company and comfort to this resident on his last days. She came back the day after on her day off to see him again, she then found his daughter was with him and provided her with emotional support as well. We sincerely thank Safirah for her kindness, compassion and the lasting difference she has made to this resident’s final journey.”

Safirah we are so proud and grateful to have you on the team, the impact you have on both residents and their family are commendable, you should be proud of your achievement.

Please also join us in congratulating our category winners, here are their nominations.

Although she was simply passing by, Loraine immediately noticed the situation and did not hesitate to step in and assist. Her quick response, calm approach and ability to take charge demonstrated strong leadership and professionalism. LEADERSHIP - Drishti Goojha, Hospitality Supervisor – Residential Care Services
“Drishti received a phone call whilst on her way home, from a staff member advising of a workplace incident where a staff member was injured. The location of the incident and staff member injured were outside Drishti’s area of responsibility, however Drishti was contacted by staff and she provided immediate advice and guidance to team members, escalated the incident internally and returned to work where she provided support and assistance to the injured worker and other team members. The compassion and leadership demonstrated by Drishti was evident, and through her genuine care for others, suitable actions were taken to support the injured worker and reassure others who were visibly concerned.”

TEAMWORK - Claudia Becerra, Social Engagement Team Leader – SwanCare Ningana, Claire Judd, Receptionist – SwanCare Ningana, Marcus Allan, Community Assistant – SwanCare At Home
“I would like to commend Marcus, Claire and Claudia for the difference they make to a resident living in SwanCare Ningana. As a team they showed what can be achieved working together across different departments and disciplines. Marcus is a regular visitor to a resident in Ningana. During the visit Marcus and the resident would play scrabble. Marcus noted that playing the same game every time became boring for the person and that there were no other options available. He mentioned this to Claire who in turn raised this with Claudia. Claudia followed up on the feedback and gathered other resources to use during the visit. This is a fantastic example of how we can work together as a team for the best of those entrusted to our care. Thanks for making a difference. It is not gone unnoticed.”

Thank you, Claudia, Claire and Marcus, for stepping up and making positive change. Your actions make a real difference to the lives of our residents. Great teamwork!
